The Power of Curcumin

Ever wish there was a pill you could give your child that just magically made her smarter, happier, more motivated, calm, logical, and more confident? Well, there just might be one!

I am talking about a curcumin supplement pill with added pepperine for increased bioavailability. Study after study has been showing it’s vast array of incredible benefits, especially for that of the brain.

What is curcumin? Curcumin is a compound in the spice turmeric that gives it it’s bright orange colour. If you follow my blog regularly, you will know that I advocate for lots of deep bright nature’s colour in your child’s diet, including orange. Curcumin, in particular, is wonderful for developing brains. Not only does it cross the blood brain barrier to help provide antioxidant protection of the neurons from damaging oxidation, but it helps the brain grow new brain cells and new connections from existing brain cells! This is especially notable in the hippocampus of the brain, which is involved with memory. Imagine a better memory? Your child would effortlessly fly through life’s challenges with memory on his side! He will certainly have an advantage over other children.

Curcumin has also been shown to enhance neurotransmitter production. Examples are an increase in noradrenaline production, which helps with motivation, an increase in tryptophan which is a vital amino acid building block to the happy well-being neurotransmitter serotonin, and increase production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps control emotional responses and helps to give energy and motivation. I imagine every child could use a little more of all those.

In summary so far, curcumin is a compound that is so amazing, it can help with memory, happiness, courage, feeling of well-being, enhanced mood, unstoppable motivation, calm and logical emotional responses, and increased zest for life. Could it get any better?

Yes! It’s benefits extend well past the brain. Because of it’s potent anti-inflammatory properties, it helps with all sorts of inflammatory diseases including leaky gut and digestive issues such as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's disease. As we know from a previous post, having a leaky gut means having a leaky blood brain barrier. Healing these can make the world of a difference to the state of health. Healing digestive diseases by reducing inflammation will increase the gut's ability to uptake vital nutrients for optimal brain and body health. Chronic inflammation is a deadly enemy. Reducing it is a very important objective for clear thinking and for optimal health. When your child ages, if given curcumin growing up, he will be protected from the possibilities of depression, dementia or senility, and a vast number of other diseases such as cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart disease…. even if genetically predisposed.

What to buy? Well, it has been shown that curcumin does not absorb well into the body. Adding the pepperine, as mentioned above, makes the curcumin 2000X more bioavailable for the cells of the brain and body. Pepperine is a compound found in peppercorns. If buying a supplement, be sure it is curcumin not turmeric (turmeric is weaker) with added pepperine. If you wish to offer curry to your child, be sure to add cracked pepper. At our house, we take both a supplement and eat a variety of curry dishes. My children all love vegetables with a cashew curry sauce, but it did take a bit of time before all the kids ate it without complaint. If your child resists or complains at first, hang in there and keep serving it. Eventually, they will request it! I promise! Then, they will be well on their way to being happy, smart, motivated, calm yet energetic, emotionally stable, positive thinking, and
