Using Essential Oils For Emotional Health

As most of you know, I am a big advocate for eating nutrient dense foods, avoiding food intolerances, avoiding processed foods, adding in probiotics and drinking ample clean water, but did you know I also advocate the use of essential oils?

If you have not tried them, you simply must. It is a super cheap way to enhance the health, immunity, and mental health of your child. They are quick acting, smell delightful, and very little is needed to see results.

As a dentist, I used pure essential oils for tooth and gum health. We placed essential oils under resin fillings so as to eliminate pain after the procedures. We used them in our polishes to fight the oral bacteria that contribute to oral disease. We used them in our mouth washes, and in our ultrasonic cleansers with terrific results. Patient's took them home for home prevention care. It was awesome.

Now that I am a Wellness Advocate and Health Consultant, I advise the use of essential oils for everything under the sun! It is amazing what these little drops from mother nature can do for you, especially for mental health. 

Children have to undergo a lot of stresses day to day. The nice thing about essential oils is that they work quickly, and are a powerful natural remedy for most emotional imbalances. The average child can apply their own when and as needed. When children are taught which oil is used for what purpose, they can empower their day by applying the roller oils as needed, depending on the feelings that they are experiencing.

DoTerra, for example, has an emotional roller bottle line that covers everything from anxiety to lack of focus. If your child is prone to feeling anxious at school, (or anywhere), they can simply roll on the Peace blend, PastTense blend, or the Console Blend. These are specific blends of essential oils that work synergistically with one another to enter the cells of the body and elicit the calming effect desired. As your child uses it and feels the difference it can make, they will reach for it the next time they begin to feel tense or anxious.

At doTerra, an emotions chart allows you to quickly look up an unbalanced emotion and find the best oils or blends to use to alleviate those feelings. Say the symptom is irritability, the chart lists the following options: arborvitae, bergamont, coriander, geranium, lavender, lemon, neroli, Roman Chamomile, rose, tangerine, wild orange, Cheer Blend, Console blend, or Peace blend. You can see by the list that there are many choices and layering opportunities to get a desired result. For small children, dilute the oils in coconut oil or argon oil 1 drop to 1 teaspoon. For babies dilute 1 drop essential oil to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil. If using the roller bottles, they are already diluted for you.

This list is great because each child and adult is different. If one oil does not do the trick, try a different one. Try layering two, or a blend. Try layering frankincense over the primary oil, or layering coconut oil over the oils and massaging them into the skin to increase the therapeutic onset.
